A Mantle withdrawal needs one final claim
A Mantle withdrawal starts on the network, then waits for settlement on Ethereum before you claim the funds in a separate transaction and pay its gas.

A Mantle withdrawal does not reach Ethereum when you first sign it; you must wait for the withdrawal message to settle, then send a separate claim. That final step releases the funds to your Ethereum wallet. Knowing the difference helps you read the status correctly and keep enough ETH for the claim fee.
First, you choose the asset and amount and confirm a transaction on Mantle. That transaction starts the withdrawal and creates a message for Ethereum. For a closer look at the routes and their steps, see Mantle Bridge. The message records the requested exit; it does not mean the funds are already available on Ethereum.
What does a Mantle withdrawal message do?
The message carries the withdrawal request from Mantle to Ethereum so the bridge can release the matching funds. Think of it as a receipt that the exit has started, not proof that it is finished. The first transaction uses MNT for gas on Mantle. Your Ethereum balance will not change just because that transaction confirms.
Mantle’s current network uses validity proofs—cryptographic checks that confirm batches of transactions are valid—to settle state on Ethereum. Once the relevant state is verified and processed, the withdrawal can become claimable. That means a pending message may still be waiting for settlement, even though the withdrawal transaction is confirmed. The old seven-day challenge period described in older guides is not the current settlement step.
When can you make the final claim?
You can claim when the bridge marks the withdrawal as ready. Switch your wallet to Ethereum and submit the claim transaction. This is a separate on-chain action: it asks the Ethereum bridge contract to release the funds to your address. Until that transaction succeeds, the exit is not complete.
The claim also needs ETH on Ethereum to pay gas. The amount you are withdrawing cannot pay that fee before it arrives. Keep the withdrawal record or transaction hash so you can return to the same request and check its status. Closing the bridge page does not complete the claim or cancel a confirmed withdrawal.
What should you check before withdrawing?
Before signing, check the amount, destination address and network. Set aside MNT for the Mantle transaction and ETH for the eventual Ethereum claim. The timing depends on proof production and Ethereum processing, so use the bridge’s status rather than assuming a fixed wait.
- Started: the Mantle transaction created the withdrawal message.
- Pending: settlement on Ethereum is still in progress.
- Ready: you can switch to Ethereum and send the claim.
- Complete: check your Ethereum wallet for the released funds.
The practical takeaway is simple: initiating a withdrawal and claiming it are two different steps. For most users, the direct bridge is the clearer choice when waiting for settlement is acceptable. Keep gas for both chains and treat the Ethereum claim as part of the transfer, not an optional extra.
